I started writing Big Little Thought Crimes here in Melbourne in early 2020.
These are personal views on public policy in higher education, and universities as institutions of higher learning. I hope you enjoy reading, even if you disagree. Please feel free to post (concise, relevant, civil & enlightening!) comments.
In Australia as elsewhere, universities have seen big shifts over the last 2-3 decades. Looking ahead, even bigger changes seem likely by 2030.
Since 2005 I’ve worked mainly at the University of Melbourne as a senior lecturer, program leader and occasional consultant; and at Monash University as a higher education policy adviser. In recent years I’ve undertaken policy and process reviews in the university sector, including to support institutional policy responses to the 2019 French Review. Some recent posts reflect what I have learned from this work.
In 2022 I became a member of Heterodox Academy (https://heterodoxacademy.org/ ) and have received funding to look into viewpoint diversity on Australian university campuses.
